My Project
I work with an inspiring group of middle school students at SRMS in Arnold, Maryland. As a Reading Specialist, I support learners who are still developing foundational literacy skills. Many of my students read below grade level, which makes it harder for them to access the curriculum and fully engage in learning. They are curious, motivated, and capable—but they need reading materials that truly capture their interest and meet them at their level.
To help close this reading gap, I’m requesting a subscription to Legends of Learning and Time for Kids Digital.
These platforms provide compelling, age-appropriate content that helps students build essential reading skills. Legends of Learning uses gamified learning tied to science and social studies content, making reading fun while reinforcing cross-curricular comprehension. Time for Kids Digital features high-interest articles about current events, global issues, and real-world topics that spark curiosity and discussion.
These resources will provide my students with engaging digital content that supports vocabulary growth, critical thinking, and reading stamina. Most importantly, they offer students meaningful choices in what they read—something that can change a reluctant reader into an enthusiastic one.
Middle school is a crucial time to close the reading gap. Once students reach high school, academic demands increase rapidly, and there’s less time and flexibility for remediation. If we intervene now, we can build their confidence and skills before it’s too late.
