My Project

My students love to laugh, imagine, and connect with characters who feel real. This project brings two beloved graphic novel series—Captain Underpants and The Baby-Sitters Club—into our classroom library to hook reluctant readers, encourage book discussions, and develop comprehension skills in an engaging, accessible way.

I teach a diverse group of 6th graders who come to class with different reading levels, interests, and backgrounds.

Many are visual learners, and some are still working toward grade-level fluency. What unites them is their curiosity and the joy they feel when they find books that reflect their humor, friendships, and real-life challenges.

By adding complete sets of Captain Underpants and The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels to our ELA classroom library, I’m giving students access to high-interest stories that make reading fun again. These series are perfect for teaching:

Character development and dialogue

Story structure (conflict, rising action, climax, resolution)

Theme and author's purpose

Literary devices, including humor, tone, and point of view

Graphic novels also provide visual support that aids struggling readers while still offering rich vocabulary and layered storytelling for deeper analysis.

These books will make a huge difference for my students. Not only will they build reading stamina and confidence, but they’ll also experience the joy of shared reading—swapping books, debating characters, and laughing together. With your help, my classroom will become a place where all students see themselves as readers.

Your donation brings more than books—it brings excitement, confidence, and community into our reading lives. Thank you for believing in the power of graphic novels and helping young readers grow!
