From Papyrus to Whiteboard!

Help me give my students the very basic supplies they need in a classroom. We need paper, dry erase markers and a whiteboard eraser. Yes, that basic!

My Students

My school is a Title I school, with over 45% of the population receiving free or reduced price lunch. Last year in particular, our area has been severely hit by Hurricane Harvey and it is still recovering from the aftermath of this disaster. Resilience is the word that can better describe the young people in my class.

They love challenges and take part in every project I offer them, whether to volunteer and help others, tutoring their peers, or being involved in the Italian Community in our city.

They work hard, are highly motivated (I step in when they are not!) and deserve to have access to the best learning opportunities.

My Project

Due to major budget cuts, my school has had to cut on very basic materials, like paper for photocopies... Now, we know that in the past clay and wax tablets were enough, and probably in the future we will be writing on virtual screens made of thin air, but the reality is that many of our students benefit from having a hard copy to take notes on, graphic organizers to gather their ideas, and written text to apply their reading strategies on.

My students need copy paper, colorful dry erase markers and a whiteboard eraser, which are the basic needs of every classroom at all levels.

We do use technology extensively, but I need to make sure I am reaching all the students, and I need to provide them with photocopies they can use to learn better.

I often produce my own materials digitally, but then I need to print them for my students to organize their thoughts in an orderly manner.

We are going to use recycled paper, and an environmentally friendly whiteboard eraser, since I want my students to also be aware of how they take care of the Earth.
