Help me give my students a paper shredder to support classroom recycling. They'll build vocational skills while learning how everyday actions, like reusing and reducing waste, can protect and care for the environment.

My Project
Our classroom serves transition-aged students with developmental disabilities, and one of our goals is to teach environmentally responsible habits through functional, hands-on activities. A paper shredder supports this by allowing students to participate in a classroom-wide paper recycling system, helping them understand the importance of reducing waste and reusing materials.
Shredded paper in our class is:
Collected and used for composting projects, which we tie into lessons on soil health and food waste
Repurposed for eco-friendly art and sensory projects, reinforcing creative reuse
Bagged and delivered to school and district recycling bins, giving students a meaningful role in environmental stewardship
Through this process, students develop vocational skills while also learning sustainable practices, such as:
Reducing landfill waste
Conserving resources by recycling
Understanding the impact of human actions on the planet
A shredder doesn’t just process paper—it empowers our students to take action for the Earth in a way that’s concrete, age-appropriate, and deeply connected to their learning and independence.
