Help me give my students the classroom supplies they need to take boring worksheets to engaging and interactive practice with Post-It Notes, dry erase markers and more.
My classroom is full of creative, intelligent, and unique students who want to experience math in an environment that suits their needs. If you walk into my class you might find a student leading a group or self directed learning on devices. In the corner you might see a collaboration group exploring a real-world application for the topics we have been covering in class. My students bring some of the most innovative thoughts into my teaching and I want to bring them an innovative classroom to work in.
My Project
My students thoroughly enjoy using dry erase boards in class to quickly practice their math skills. Unfortunately they run through the dry erase markers quickly due to frequent use. New markers and fun erasers will make what we already do, more fun and engaging.
In addition to dry erase boards, my class uses lots of post-it notes for formative assessments and activities.
Our school supplies only the yellow post-its, but I've found that colors are much more useful for categorizing, grouping, and providing students feedback. With my special education students, any opportunity to use color to help emphasize important skills is a must. In supplying my class with more color post-it notes, we will be able to continue the activities that they enjoy.
Although I am a math teacher, I have included a cursive practice board in the list of supplies because so many of my students want to be able to write cursive. I thought it would be nice to offer then a practice board in class when they finish their work early or during extended learning time to practice a skill they want to have. Since students aren't formally taught cursive, the only opportunities they receive are through enrichment organized by teachers.
