My Project
Story dramatizations are a key part of k-6 drama, reading a story and then bringing it to life with students can be magical. The books listed in this project would help my students find their voices, build their confidence, build a better classroom community, and tell more stories.
Dramatic play in the classroom is a key part of developing comprehension and other language arts skills necessary for a student's success.
My goals for this project are to create a series of lesson plans for students in grades k-5 that are specifically story dramatization lesson plans. In these lessons students will take on various roles, use the classroom as a set, and put together simple costumes and set pieces to help bring these stories into the real world. Reading and storytelling are vital to the dramatic process, and the more stories we can tell the more that we can learn from other people, other cultures, and even ourselves.
Most of our students are on free or reduced lunch, many speak english as a second language, and all of them need the arts to help them find themselves and become better learners. Our students are hard workers, are always striving their best, and want to become the best artists and students they can be. This project would help them to push themselves further and reach greater heights.
