Less than one year after opening our new school building, it was devastated with more than six inches of water due to Hurricane Harvey. My students are resilient and eager to tackle all of the challenges that get placed before them. When they get to make music together, the joy I see on their faces makes me want to give them access to the world.
For many of my students, choir class is the bright spot in their day.
My students love to express themselves through song. Making, experiencing and receiving a quality musical education helps them express the feelings they might have a hard time otherwise putting into words.
Unfortunately, we are still missing many of the items used on a daily basis. My students are thrilled to be back to "normal", but would be even happier if I could give them access to everything we had access to before the storm.
My Project
"Music is Sound and Silence that has been organized in time." I use that phrase repeatedly with my students so they understand the difference between random chaos and the art of making music. They learn to make music in a very organized and structured way so their learning space should also be organized and structured.
An organized classroom is a happy classroom.
Students need a space to turn in paperwork that is neat and orderly. Students also need to be able to work in the digital world without worrying if the device they're using is going to hold it's charge for the entire period.
When you have cables, cords and paper all over the classroom, it can be very distracting. These materials will help me keep everything in it's place. It will also give me more time to create new and exciting lessons to help students enjoy all that the world of music has to offer.
