This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Give us the ability to make music! Many of my students have never had the opportunity to learn to play an instrument.
My students come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.
Because of this, private musical instruction has not been an option for many of them. However, they are very creative and eager to learn.
We are a relatively new school, and are continuing to grow and expand each year. The high school was opened in 2010 with a very limited staff, and no music program. This will be our first year offering music classes. Therefore, we are in need of a variety of instruments to stock our classroom!
My Project
Hand drums will help us be able to experience and perform music from different cultures and different points in history! By physically taking part in the music making process, students come to understand the different patterns, styles and techniques that go into drumming and performing. Having instruments allows the students to experiment with, create and perform the music they are learning about.
These instruments will be used by not only our current students, but by students in the years to come as Paul Cuffee High School continues to grow.
It is our hope that our music program will grow along with our school, and we need your help and support to make that happen!
