From Kindergarteners to Future Engineers

Help me give my students magnetic builders, a fort builder, building bricks, and a marble run for all the tools they need to help them succeed with STEM activities but also to spark their creativity!

My Project

I currently have 25 kindergartners in my classroom. I work at a low-income school on the southeast side of Chicago. At such a young age, my students are dealing with difficult situations. They have dealt with situations such as impoverished homes, gangs and violence, and drugs. However, you would never know it because my students are determined to not be a product of their environments. They are dedicated to their work and love to be challenged.

I am a firm believer that the STEM curriculum should start at an early age.

However, it is always a challenge to receive resources for our primary students when it comes to STEM-related curriculum. The majority of the STEM classes or after-school programs are catered to intermediate and middle-school students. This is exactly why I am writing this project. With these fun, educational resources, my student's creativity can shine through as they are building forts or engineering bridges. The students' problem-solving skills can enhance as they learn more about patterns with the design center and the magnetic gears. So please help my students explore and keep that STEM spark in them going.
