From Graphs to Graduation: Empowering Future Thinkers!
Help me give my students equal access to graphing calculators so they can confidently explore, understand, and apply advanced math concepts in AP Pre-Calculus.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are curious, hardworking, and driven to succeed, even when faced with challenging material. Many of them are taking AP Pre-Calculus to prepare for college-level STEM courses, and they continually impress me with their determination and willingness to help one another. Despite varying levels of access to resources outside of school, they show up each day eager to learn and grow. What I love most is how they support each other, ask thoughtful questions, and take real pride in their progress.
With a classroom set of 36 graphing calculators, all of my students will have equal access to the tools they need to explore and master complex concepts; these graphing calculators will help level the playing field.
Not all of my students have access to one at home or even in class, and these tools are essential for understanding complex topics like trigonometry and will allow students to graph functions, analyze regression models, and interpret real-world data with precision—skills that are essential not only for success in AP Pre-Calculus but also in future math, science, and engineering courses. Having a set of classroom calculators will allow every student to explore deeply, visualize their thinking, and gain the confidence they need to succeed—not just on the AP exam, but in any future STEM course they take.
My goal for this project is to close the technology gap and ensure every student in my class has the opportunity to experience math in a dynamic, interactive way. What makes my students special is their perseverance and their genuine excitement when they “get it.” These calculators will give them the confidence and capability to push further in their learning—and maybe even inspire a few future engineers, statisticians, or scientists.
