My students are mostly low-income students being raised in a high crime rate area. Many students suffer from poverty situations such as lack of proper attire, food, and safety. When they come to school and enter my classroom, they know they are safe, loved, and cared for. These students are entering a precarious time in their lives. As a core group of only 8th-grade students, they are finishing their journey of middle school and entering a new environment of high school where the choices of joining a gang, getting involved in drugs, or focusing to go to college all become extremely pressured. I strive to impact them early enough so that the life choices and paths they choose will be ones of positivity and success.
My Project
Imagine walking in a room with very little on the walls. Not much in the hallways either. Posters can cost a lot of money, especially when a teacher wants to make custom posters. A 12 by 12 poster can cost $15 or more and the amount of wall space that covers is minuscule.
It’s a teacher’s dream to find inspirational images and be able to make them into large posters to share and change their student’s lives.
With our students entering and then heading on their way to high school it is imperative that we not only positively influence our students with our lessons and communication, but have them surrounded by a positive environment as well.
By helping us complete this project you are giving us a printer, ink and paper that can allow us to print posters up to 36 inches wide. We will be able to decorate our walls and make sure the right messages are being sent to our students whenever they walk down our halls. Positivity is currently pricey, but you can help us change that!
