My Project

My first graders love learning about animals! In the fall, I find caterpillars and we watch them eat milkweed, grow, change into a chrysalis, and emerge as beautiful monarch butterflies. In the spring, I like to have chicken eggs in an incubator in our classroom. The excitement of watching the baby chicks hatch is truly amazing! The problem I have is having access to an incubator and the teaching materials I need each year.

The materials for our chicken life cycle unit in this project will ensure every group of 1st graders is able to observe chicks hatching in my classroom each spring!

Reading books and watching videos of this doesn't compare to seeing it in person. This project will further foster the curiosity and wonder that first graders have!
