From Egg to Chick

Help me give my students the viewing experience of a lifetime! This incubator is view friendly and allows students to experience the wonder of hatching first hand!

My Project

My afterschool STEAM club studies the life cycles of chickens and ducks. Beginning with the egg, we incubate, hatch, raise our hatchlings - for a limited time, and then donate our chicks and ducklings to a farmer! Eggs produced by the hens and ducks are eventually sold at a local farmer's market. Before making the trip to the farm, our chicks and ducklings enjoy sleep overs with club members. Students get to care for them and learn more about their behaviors and needs. Finally, they are on display for our annual STEAM night along with display boards showing the experiments and investigations done during the club.

Students first observe how chicks and ducklings grow inside an egg and then see the wonder of hatching!

The hatching process is streamed out, so families are able to watch the process as well. The club is in need of a new incubator and candling devise in order to continue watching this incredible process.

Parents and students enjoy observing the chicks and ducklings at STEAM Night. It is however important to keep our young offspring safe. The temptation to pick them up is real! The cage with canvas cover will provide a safe viewing area for our young ducklings for all to enjoy!
