From Coders to Creators: Game On with Makecode Arcade!

My Project

My 2nd through 5th-grade students have discovered something amazing: they can design and build their own video games using block coding! They've been using Makecode Arcade to create custom games, and now they're ready for the next step—testing their creations on real game controllers. With your support, we can bring Makecode Arcade-compatible handheld controllers into our STEM classroom.

These devices allow students to download and play their own games just like real programmers do—giving them immediate, hands-on feedback on whether their coding works the way they intended.

This takes learning off the screen and into their hands. It transforms coding from something abstract into something real, personal, and exciting. The thrill of seeing their games work on a controller they can hold? That’s powerful motivation and a confidence-builder like no other.

My students are deeply engaged in programming, and they’re learning skills that will serve them for years to come—problem-solving, persistence, logic, and creativity. They’ve already shown so much excitement about game development. These controllers will help them take full ownership of their learning and feel like real creators.
