This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are in 6th grade and will be learning about the small things in life, such as cells and bacteria. One thing the curriculum teaches them about is how things compare from one to another and the idea of scale factor. This is a 7th grade math standard so my students are very unfamiliar with this.

Hands on, Visual learning is the best way to engage student learning.

I realized that if we made Shrinky Dink cells, the students will get to see how something starts out large and it all shrinks down at the same, keeping the same scale factor. This will support all these students with this idea in 6th grade science, while also enforcing this idea with background knowledge when they start creating scale copies in 7th grade math.
