it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine trying to cook without pots and pans. Now imagine students trying to write without the essential writing tools. We've got the pencils and ideas. Now we just need the canvas.
We are a first grade, dual language (Spanish Immersion) class at a public charter school in Southern California, where 80% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
These first graders love to write about their experiences and share what they have written.
My Project
There is a process to writing. In order for students to develop into fluent writers, they must have a model, work collaboratively, and be able to do it independently. With these resources, I will be able to model the writing skills my students need daily, and follow with collaborative practice using Interactive Writing, during which we will go through the writing process and produce a class book. Finally, students will use what they learn to publish their own expository or narrative writings.
With this donation, we won't have to limit our writing due to lack of paper.
My students will know the importance of writing and that their own writing is important. This will not only be used with my class, but with students in my dance class and English Language Development class.
