This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
If you have ever picked up a book that is above your reading level you understand the frustration many of my scholars face daily. This project will not only provide our class with leveled readers but new read aloud books by our favorite authors.
My scholars come to school ready to learn despite many personal challenges they face living in a challenging Chicago neighborhood.
Our schools philosophy is that every scholar will attend a 4 year college and graduate, this begins in my kindergarten classroom.
My Project
By funding this project you will help us get leveled books from level A to E, book series by some of our favorite authors such as David Shannon and word magnets to practice forming complete sentences. In addition, donating to the project will make it possible for all kindergarten students at our school to receive a subscription to Time For Kids. I will be able to use the leveled books to create small group lessons with a variety of texts to keep my scholars interested and focused on reading strategies and comprehension. The read aloud texts in this project by David Shannon, Doreen Cronin and Llama Llama will lead to text based conversations since these stories are extremely engaging.
Reading is the foundation for a successful education and my scholars are at a vital point in their reading development.
