My Students
I am one of three Occupational Therapists that serves 8 elementary schools in rural southwestern Maine. I have had the privilege of working for this school district for 22 years, watching many of our terrific students grow up. From time to time I see some of my first OT kiddos, now adults, working in our local community, and I'm so very proud of them! The children we serve are from grades pre-k through 6, and all have varying levels of special needs.
In our district, we have successfully implemented a safety plan including personal protective equipment, social distancing, and providing parents with the option to have their children attend school onsite, or as remote students from home.
Our prek-grade 6th are doing such a wonderful job following the new safety guidelines and I'm so very proud of them. Onsite learners eagerly attend their therapy sessions, and our remote therapy students are getting ready to start teletherapy.
My Project
Use of a webcam and tripod during teletherapy will provide my remote learners with top notch OT interventions, so they can demonstrate proper hand/finger positioning by watching and following my live demonstrations and cueing.
This in turn will maximize their success in meeting therapy goals and while participating in remote learning tasks with greater confidence.
High quality video demonstration during teletherapy sessions with multimedia materials, make sessions fun and engaging for the them as they strengthen their upper body muscles, and improve motor coordination - a win:win situation for all.
