My Students
Having spent the last 10 years teaching science at LC School, in a beautiful student created aquaponics lab with an attached greenhouse. I have now started at a new school that previously only had science for 20mins 2x/week. My classroom is empty save tables and chairs.
My students are Native Americans who attend a tribal school.
They have not had science other than 20 mins 2x/week in a regular classroom. They are fantastic kids craving for science teaching especially in the life sciences. The only thing the school has for science is loads of old textbooks from 1993. I have always taught science using inquiry and experiential based approaches. My students would benefit tremendously from any type of science equipment that can be used in a hands on matter.
My Project
The use of this digital dissecting scope will allow my students to collect live specimens of plants and animals and project the images onto our screen. By doing this rather than everyone crowding around a single scope, all of the students will be able to look at and discuss what they are looking at collaboratively. It is a great way to do insect, plant and geology labs.
This donation will allow 140 middle school and elementary Native Americans to have their first look at the intricacies of the plant, animal, and abiotic world.
Getting a single scope that can be projected, takes the disorder out of microscope labs when all the students are crowed around the single scope waiting for their chance to take a look. Please Help!
