This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These materials will support middle school students in their Frog Pond Ecosystem Project! In this project, students are studying the ecosystem of an outdoor frog pond ecosystem we built together on our school campus. One way students are assessing the health of the ecosystem is by monitoring the dissolved oxygen, nitrates, phosphates, and pH levels in the water. In addition to the water testing materials, having a color printer in our classroom will allow me to create more engaging, supportive lesson materials for this project.

All of the students in this class are emerging bilingual learners, which means hands-on projects are especially engaging when it comes to developing English language proficiency and scientific thinking.

As a class, we will collect data about the pond throughout the semester and analyze how abiotic factors impact the success of living things. For their culminating product, students will create a working model of their ecosystem that can be used to make predictions about the ways various environmental changes could impact the success of our frogs!
