I am a teacher to 26 third graders who are smart, funny, curious, and caring. I teach in a Title I school where 100% of the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My classroom contains general education students, English language learners, and special education students. As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite these challenges, they are all eager and enthusiastic about their learning.
My classroom is a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment where they are free to explore, learn, and take risks.
My students love and truly enjoy coming to school each day.
My enthusiastic scholars have been learning a lot about frogs. They have been reading and writing about these unique reptiles. My students have studied the frog’s appearance, habitat, diet, and life cycle. My students are really becoming Frog Experts.
At this time, they have expressed a great interest in studying the frog’s anatomy and dissecting a frog!
Unfortunately, we currently do not have any frogs to dissect. We also do not have many of the required tools and materials needed for dissection. These tools and materials include a dissection pan, nitrile gloves, frog dissection manual with images, and a dissection kit.
Providing my students with this experience will truly impact their learning. Dissecting a frog will allow my students to see, touch, and explore the various organs within a frog’s body. In addition, a frog’s body provides a good overview of the organ systems. This will be a learning experience my students will always remember.
