Our students come to us with many life stories and are excited to share who they are with us and the world. Our school community is located in the foothills of Western North Carolina. Our students are primarily from lower income homes making us a Title 1 school. Our community loves and supports our students, teachers and families. We strive each day to meet the diverse needs of each of our students so that they feel loved, connected, and ready to learn so that they may find success today and in the future.
The games in this project provide opportunities for students to practice social skills through play. Students learn how to take turns, win and loose respectfully, encourage others, and self advocate while building friendships and using their imaginations. The selection of items provides opportunities for both structured and unstructured activities for students to use during social skills groups and lunch times. Through these games, children will practice social-emotional learning skills which impacts all areas of development.
"Play is often talked about as a relief from serious learning, but for children play is serious learning-Play is really the work of childhood." ~Fred Rogers
