Help me give my students books on friendship that I can read to them online while our schools are doing remote learning, and provide them with paper and envelopes to write letters to the classmates they miss!
Every year I am so fortunate to greet over 30 eager young fourth graders into my classroom!
Normally, we are focused on challenging academics that reach all learners, but in our current world situation, I feel it is my job to keep my students connected through friendship and hope.
They are resilient, brave and awe-inspiring to say the very least!
Our school has earned the honors of Blue Ribbon School, Gold Ribbon School and CA Distinguished School, but our most important honor is that we are the Eagles! As I have taught here for 24 years, I have seen time and time again that our community of staff, students and parents support and stand by one another during difficult times.
My class and I have spent many months together making memories for a lifetime! Sadly, we no longer have that daily shared connection due to the current events in the world. As we move into distance learning, I want to make sure that I focus on their connections, friendships and give them a bit of normalcy.
With the funding of this project, I will be able to purchase books about friendships, tough times and sticking together, which I can then read to them online, to remind them that we are a family in Room 43!
The supplies of stationery and envelopes would be used to supply them with tools to write letters to their classmates.
