Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a high poverty elementary school with close to 800 students that is located in a neighborhood that is settled in the middle of an industrial area. Aside from all of the trucks that rumble by, there is a high rate of crime in the surrounding area. All of the students receive a free lunch because of their socio-economic status. My students are faced with several challenges, both in and out of the classroom. They all are English Language Learners and many of them have learning disabilities. Despite the many challenges they face, they are always ready to learn, especially if I provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Seeing the excitement in kids' eyes when they learn something new makes teaching the best job ever.

My students need as many hands-on experiences as possible in school, to enhance and reinforce their learning.

My Project

My third graders are learning about friendship and loyalty. This book deals with these two themes through a fun story that keeps them focused and on task.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.

My students need these books, so that after I read a chapter aloud to them, they can take their own copy of the book home, and reread by themselves. Reading and rereading will help reinforce what they learn. My students will enjoy these books for many years to come.
