Friendship Bracelets

Help me give my students bracelet making materials so they can make spread kindness and compassion to the rest of the school community.

My Project

Being a 5th-grade teacher means spending time with a unique and amazing group of students who are going through a lot of changes while trying to find themselves as they navigate new emotions.

Finding activities that cultivate compassion can help create an emotionally safe environment, make our students feel like they belong, and improve their self-esteem.

This project includes a book, beads, string, glue, and plastic bags that our 5th graders will use to make friendship bracelets for students at the other grade levels at our school as a culmination of our social-emotional learning unit on compassion.

After learning about kindness and compassion through our school-wide Social-Emotional Learning curriculum, students will apply what they have learned about giving selflessly by making friendship bracelets with words of encouragement for younger students.

Students will understand that giving one's own time to help others shows great compassion. By making bracelets for others, we hope our students will lift themselves up as they spread these acts of kindness towards their peers.

5th graders are looked up to by all the younger students. Imagine how excited a kindergartener or 1st grader will be to get a special bracelet made by a big 5th grader. I can see the smiles on their faces now.
