My students walk in to school every day with a smile on their face and eagerness in their hearts. They may not come from the same backgrounds, cultures or socioeconomic statuses, but they come together in my classroom as one big family. We are located in a high poverty district with lots of obstacles to overcome, but my students do not let that hold them back.
Each and every one of them is determined to be successful in school.
Many of these students do not have books they can read at their homes, so the books I have in my classroom are sometimes the only books they get to read.
My Project
With this project, my students will read The BFG and discuss each chapter together. They will also be able to work on activities individually and apply reading and writing skills that they have learned previously.
The students will have options to read The BFG together as well as listen to it on the audio cd too.
I hope to help the students fall in love with Ronald Dahl’s unique way of writing that will intrigue them to want to read more of his books.
The students in my class often do not have books at home, so during this study, they will each get the opportunity to have these books with them to read ahead, reread and have as a reference when they are answering questions. Having their own copy will encourage them to keep up with their reading and talk about what they are reading with others in and outside of our classroom.
