My Students
"There is nothing on this earth more to be prized than true friendship." - Thomas Aquinas.
This year we will be fostering new friendships with a group of third graders.
These games will be used with them to teach social-emotional and academic skills like taking turns, sharing, and strategic thinking.
I am a kindergarten teacher in an urban school in Indiana. My school is made up of many different types of students. Our school community includes students living in poverty, students with special needs, and students who are learning English as a new language. Our goal is to give all students new experiences and to foster a love of learning.
My Project
With all of the academic pressures put on students, we sometimes miss out on teaching social-emotional skills and how to get along with others. This project will help kindergartners and third graders work with and learn from each other by playing games and interacting socially together.
Many of these skills that we will be working on are typically taught at home.
Unfortunately students living in poverty often don't have the opportunity to learn these skills or the luxury of having board games at home.
We hope that playing board games will provide a fun opportunity for students to gain these needed skills.
