My Project
Being the end of the school year, I've had several months to reflect on the resources and tools that would make my classroom a more welcoming, functional, and productive environment for my students and myself.
My specific goal with this project is to offer a designated space for reading and reflection.
The books, bookshelves, rugs, and other requested furniture items will help immensely in fostering a safe and comfortable environment for students to explore their growing love of literature.
Additionally, I would like to offer a reward system to students who create and meet reading challenges set out for them at the beginning of each quarter. Snacks and other supplies will be used to incentivize students to read with intention and keep track of their progress throughout the year.
Ideally, I would like to start the school year in August with an established set of materials and resources - supplies that I would not be able to attain on my own due to monetary restrictions. While I'm able to purchase some supplies, such as Kleenex, pencils, etc., I would love to be able to have those needs met before my students walk in the door on their first day.
My freshmen students are in need of an inordinate amount of help and encouragement as they enter into high school. Having a classroom that they feel welcomed in would make a huge impact on their confidence as they begin their high school journey.
