My Project
The Freshen Up Cart is a program we started in EAST to support students who wish to freshen up before school starts. The goal of this initiative is simple: to help all students feel their absolute best as they begin their day. We know that when students feel good about themselves, they are more likely to focus, engage in their lessons, and have a productive day. The cart is placed in the bathrooms each morning, offering essential items like deodorant, toothbrushes, combs, face wipes, and more. These small but meaningful items allow students to take a moment to care for themselves before the school day begins, helping them start the day on a positive note.
Our goal for this project is to expand it even further.
We want to give students access to the cart’s items not only before school but also after recess. This will provide an additional opportunity for students to freshen up after physical activity, ensuring they feel clean, refreshed, and ready to take on the rest of their day. The specific items we provide, like deodorant and face wipes, make a difference in students' learning by promoting comfort and confidence. When students are able to address their basic needs, they are less distracted and better able to focus on their academic tasks.
What makes our students special is their diverse backgrounds and the unique challenges they may face. This program is designed to support them by addressing some of those challenges, such as a lack of access to hygiene products. By offering this resource, we’re not only improving their day-to-day well-being but also showing that we care about their overall success and happiness. The Freshen Up Cart is just one way we can empower our students to thrive, both in and out of the classroom.
