In our dance and physical education departments, students challenge their bodies every day through movement, athleticism, and performance. But behind the scenes, a quiet and pressing need often arises—access to basic personal hygiene items. Many of our students cannot always afford these essentials, and emergencies happen more often than people realize. Up to now, we—your dedicated instructors—have been purchasing travel-size deodorants, body wipes, feminine products, and more with our own money, just to ensure no student feels embarrassed or unprepared. This would help us build a reliable hygiene station stocked with these critical supplies, so students always have what they need.
These small items make a big difference.
When a student forgets deodorant or doesn’t have access to body wipes after an intense rehearsal or PE class, it affects their comfort, confidence, and willingness to engage. With a steady supply of hygiene items, we can eliminate those worries and ensure every student feels clean, respected, and ready to perform—whether it’s on the dance floor or the gym floor. We’ve seen firsthand how access to these basics helps students participate more freely and with dignity.
For years, we’ve filled in the gap quietly, but the need continues to grow—and it's time to do more. This grant isn’t just about toiletries; it’s about self-respect, equity, and removing barriers to full participation in class.
