Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the sweetest little kindergarteners around! They come to school eager and excited to learn! Some of them come from low-income families, some are limited English speakers, and some are gifted and talented, but no matter what they love school and are always ready to learn. This past year has been hard on them due to our school receiving damage from Hurricane Harvey. They were doubled up in one classroom which made it a little cramped and loud but they still worked hard and were ready to move up to first grade by the end of the school year.
Many of my students also come from single-parent homes and unfortunately do not have access to literature and other academic resources.
For some of them, kindergarten is their very first year of school. They often start the year not knowing the names of the colors or the letters of the alphabet. Some do not even know how to write their names or even the first letter of their names. However, as soon as school begins for the year, my students work hard and are like little sponges, soaking up all of the knowledge they can get their hands on!
My Project
Folktales and nursery rhymes are a big part of kindergarten. The books by Paul Galdone will help my children learn concepts such as characters and setting.
My students love our classroom library.
Having a bright, colorful beanbag to enjoy as they read will make learning even more fun! The colorful book bins will also make our little library more appealing. They will also make our classroom more organized and help the children find the books they need.
Little ones benefit from the opportunity to learn in work stations. The magnetic letters and various alphabet activities will make their work stations rich with academic materials!
