This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One school year is coming to an end, but a new school year is coming up rapidly behind it and awaiting me will be 25 new energetic students ready to be taught. I would like to start the year off right by having the supplies needed to learn and be organized.
I work at a Title I school where all the students receive a free lunch and breakfast based on their family’s income.
This being said, asking parents to donate supplies is not always feasible. Many of these students are on track to becoming first-generation college students, and I would like to help them get a strong start on that path. Teaching students to be organized is a foundational skill that I feel is needed for success in school and life in general.
Nothing is worse than working so hard on an assignment and then not being able to find it, or even worse, having it be wrinkled and torn because it was stuffed inside the desk. The supplies I am requesting will help students learn to start being organized by using clearly labeled folders, sheet protectors, and notebooks for different subjects. This will eliminate, or at least reduce, the “I can’t find my paper” dilemma that I hear so often.
The whiteboard markers, erasers, and glue sticks will help with daily activities in almost every subject.
We, as teachers, are here to guide and teach our students, but we need the correct tools in order to be able to do so to the best of our ability. This project will help not only my students but also their parents, who may not be able to afford these supplies on their own. Any donation, big or small, would be appreciated.
