My students love to learn! If given the choice, they would lay on the floor and read most of the day. They also love hands-on learning. I'm so fortunate to guide them in their journey and wish to provide them with a vibrant, well-equipped classroom.
I teach twenty-seven fourth graders in a high poverty, high needs school.
One hundred percent of our students get free breakfast and lunch. We have thirty-eight home languages! Our families are very involved, and the kids are bright and inquisitive.
My Project
My fourth grade students are about to study Oregon indigenous people and westward expansion (the Oregon Trail). We need newer books that portray this period of history from many perspectives. Most of the books available to me now just make the Oregon Trail seem like a grand adventure, barely mentioning anyone other than white people.
The books I'm seeking portray what native life was like, how native people viewed and were impacted by the coming of white people, and what life was like for African Americans and Chinese immigrants.
Other books talk realistically about what life was like on the journey with Lewis and Clark or the Oregon Trail. Please make history come alive for my students with these up-to-date books!
