My Students

My students are motivated inner city students from a large Midwestern city. They believe in themselves and want to come to school and learn.

My students have serious economic limitations, their parents cannot always make financial ends meet.

Many times after food and bills are paid, there isn't much left for daily hygiene products. They are proud, hardworking young adults who want a chance to fit in. Being clean can help alleviate some anxieties many of the children will face.

My Project

Starting every day with a shower and clean clothes is something most take for granted. When it isn't an option for many of my students because economic hardships don't allow for needed toiletries, a new day at school could become a nightmare.

Having access to soaps, shampoos, and clean socks can help a student feel more confident about themselves on a daily basis.

When students feel more confident, they will do better in the classroom. Free from concern about how they look or smell, students can focus on what is being taught and not what is being said about them.
