My Students
Each of my classes is made up of thirty students who speak upwards of 13 different languages and come from more than 15 different countries. They are all immigrants and refugees learning to work together while learning a new language and culture. Our school is nearly 100% free lunch, and most children live within a ten mile radius of the school. Our school houses many cultures, languages and religions. I work hard each day to make sure they are having meaningful experiences in their new school setting.
All of my students have experienced an interrupted education due to war, political unrest, or extreme poverty in their native country.
Most of my students have been in the US for less than a year, and they work hard every day to learn English and academic content. My students are highly motivated and want to be successful contributors to society.
My Project
My students are newly arrived immigrants and refugees most of whom have not had access to a consistent formal education in their home country. With the current pandemic, unfortunately many of these same students have experienced disruption in their learning again.
These amazing learners are incredibly excited to be returning to in-person learning and are motivated to make tremendous growth in their English language development.
The air purifiers, window screens, and fans will allow fresh, clean air to be moving in the classroom at all times. The paper towels, antibacterial cleaner, and hand sanitizer will help our classroom stay clean and will teach students to be responsible for their own learning environment and safety. As we are returning to the classroom in the midst of these unique times, it is important for me to have a clean, healthy and supportive classroom community for everyone!
