Freezing Freshness: A Deep Freezer for Our Nutrition Lab

My Project
My students are passionate about food, health, and hands-on learning. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many are enrolled in our CTE pathway in culinary arts or nutrition. They thrive when given real-world experiences and take great pride in preparing meals from scratch.
Many of our students dream of careers in food science, culinary arts, or dietetics.
Our class is their introduction to these possibilities and we want to provide them with the tools professionals use every day.
Our food and nutrition class prepares a wide variety of meals, snacks, and recipe demonstrations but we often struggle to store perishable ingredients like meats, dairy, and prepared foods. A deep freezer would allow us to buy in bulk and store ingredients safely. It will allow my students to Freeze meals prepared during lessons for future use or food drives. It will help cut back on food waste by extending the shelf life of fresh items. It will also give students experience with proper food storage practices.
