Help me give my students a more enjoyable experience gaining insight on three dimensional forms using the magnetic tiles. The dry erase markers are especially important as it allows students to practice without the few of permanency.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I try to teach my students that it is okay to make a mistake. No one is perfect. I've purchased a set and my kids are in love with it. It is hard for them to use with only one box. With magnetic building tiles, students are granted the freedom to create without worry that it "isn't right". Children and adults are always looking for validation. It can be hard for both to feel as if they are doing well when everyone can see your mistakes. Magnetic tiles allow the freedom try and have fun doing it.
Having the dry erase markers is another way students can feel safe in trying without the idea of permanency.
Even with a pencil, when unknowingly pressing hard into paper, even the best erasers can not make your mistake disappear entirely. My students can be phenomenal, they need to know it is okay to try, make a mistake and not have that mistake hold them back.
There are few materials more exciting than markers to a child. Having markers that look like them is important to seeing themselves as normal and accepted. Bold color brighten up everyone's day, markers are one of the best materials everyone is excited for.
