This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

'What's wrong?' "I just want to play," complained one of our students. One of the challenges our students face is the lack of play outdoors in a safe and enriching environment.

The room buzzes throughout the day as they laugh, sing, and share with their peers.

They are a thoughtful, loving, and hardworking group of students who are excited to learn and grow. While academic games have surely improved their engagement and joy in the classroom, there is much to be said about the ability to have unstructured play during the school day. Located in a tough neighborhood, the school is a safe space for children to develop their socio-emotional and leadership skills.

My Project

By providing recess equipment, students will be able to further develop their communication skills as well as other social skills like sharing and problem solving. For instance, the balls and parachute will provide the opportunity for children to play memorable and interactive games. Additionally, they will be able to use these materials in other subject areas like jumping rope to reinforce counting skills and chalk to develop creativity as well as their letter writing skills. The additional bag will be used to store items like the chalk and hoops in an organized space.

Donations to this project will not only affect students engagement during the recess period, but it will also affect their behavior throughout the school day.

A fun, engaging, and safe recess period will better prepare them for learning that occurs after lunch and will decrease their restlessness.
