My Students

Hello! I am a second grade teacher in Tennessee. My classroom consists of a variety of students. They are creative, active, curious, and love hands-on activities. I understand that students learn best in different ways. I am hoping to improve my classroom environment and culture this year.

Reading and science are two of our favorite subjects in my class. We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

My Project

I am excited to implement flexible seating in my classroom this year. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they sit. This may seem very simple, but the benefits are tremendous. Benefits include having choice and control over their environment, the opportunity to move while working, being comfortable, a sense of community, opportunities for collaboration, commitment to learning, communication skills, sensory input, and FUN! I plan to use the large bean bag chairs in my classroom library - everyone needs a comfy place to get lost in a book. I am planning to use the wobble chairs at a round table and the wobble cushions at a table that is low to the ground. These will be perfect for my students who think and work better while they move. Flexible seating will remove desks and rows out of my classroom and transform our learning environment into a comfortable, more conducive learning environment. I am excited to see the positive results that come from flexible seating!
