Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is made up of a diverse group of students, and for several years, all or most of my students have had brown or dark eyes. I have been working to update the materials and books in my class and my class library to better represent my students.
Young children want to be accepted, and they need to be shown how to embrace who they are or being different.
Picture books are a great resource for opening up conversations about similarities and differences in culture, appearance, family life, and behaviors. Even the littlest learners can make connections between the stories they hear and their life-experiences.
