My Project
We will focus on non-fiction in ELA 11/12, and my students will need highly engaging, page turning, and moving memoirs like "Free Lunch" by Rex Ogle. This set of books will allow students to have equal access to a real, paper book, keeping them off technology and free to read at their own pace. When students can carry books to and from school, it opens the door for them to become readers outside of the classroom. "Free Lunch" is a true story and deals with Rex Ogle and his family's experience with poverty. For some students this will be an eye-opening memoir about unfairness; for others, it will be a mirror.
