Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our classroom serves amazing students in a special education life skills program, ranging from grades 6 - 8. They are eager learners with diverse abilities, and they thrive when engaged in hands-on, community-based learning. Many of our students are nonverbal or have limited verbal communication, and they benefit from functional, real-world tasks that foster independence, social interaction, and a sense of purpose.

We are launching a Free Little Library project where our students will build, maintain, and promote a public book-sharing box for our class and school community.

This inclusive, school community-based project will support literacy, communication, vocational skills, and pride in community service.

This project connects classroom learning with real-world applications. Our students will practice ife and vocational skills (following directions, using simple tools, restocking, record-keeping); Strengthen social skills and inclusion by interacting with peers and school community members; Promote literacy and access for everyone in our class and school; and, Take ownership of a meaningful, ongoing school community contribution

This Free Little Library isn’t just about books—it's about empowering students with disabilities to lead, create, and connect.

Many of our students come from low-income households, and our school has limited resources for enrichment programs like this. With your support, we can build something lasting that not only serves our students but makes a positive impact on our entire community.
