This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My kindergarten students are smart, hard-working, and love to have FUN! Our days are filled with learning our letters and sounds, counting, number recognition and so much more! While the academic skills we are developing are so important, I would also appreciate the opportunity to give my students some unstructured play time with their classmates. During this time, students will be able to choose from different centers based on their interests, such as building with blocks or puzzles.

Free play is incredibly beneficial for kindergarten students by encouraging creativity and imagination.

Students create scenarios and explore new ideas, which is essential for problem-solving. Free play with their peers helps students learn essential social skills such as sharing, cooperation, negotiation, and conflict resolution. It also helps to support language development. Students use language to express themselves, explain ideas, and communicate with others.

Free play is an essential component of early childhood education. It nurtures a child's whole development, helping them become well-rounded individuals both socially and academically. There is plenty of time during the school day for learning AND joyful play. My goal is to provide my kindergarten students this type of learning environment where they will thrive.
