My Project

Thank you for taking the time to review my latest project. I hope to share with students a class set of the graphic novel of Frederick Douglass.

Help teens better learn to see the world through the eyes of another person.

In my US History class, my students will learn from different groups of people in order to better understand the American narrative and how complex it is. Including the graphic novel will help students understand the experiences of enslaved people in this country, and students will grapple on the long term consequences still felt in this country because of slavery.

My students will learn to work toward alleviating suffering in others by learning compassion from Douglass' narrative. Douglass self-education, and his life-long plight to abolish slavery will inspire my young students to work towards their own goals and dreams despite the obstacles. My students will also learn and become a part of the movement to fulfill the work towards the ideals Douglass fought for, and students will be learning ways they can work to help marginalized groups such the unhoused, immigrants, members of the LGBTQ, and the indigenous.

I will measure the success in my students understanding of compassion by a project based assignment. The reading will help scaffold the conversation of socieital problems and how advocacy works. Students will choose ways to help marganized groups in my community, research about community resources available, and lastly advocate for change to local politicians.
