The Danny Kaye School, PS 149 in Brooklyn, New York, is an elementary school, serving a population of 815 students. Ninety percent of these students are eligible for Title 1 services. I teach first grade and I also serve as the Project ARTS Coordinator. I have noticed the efforts of our teachers as they work hard at integrating the arts into the classroom curriculums, and I'd like to help them. Eighty percent of our students, in all grades, receive visual arts instruction. They have done some great work which we would like to present in mini installations throughout the building. To give our displays a more professional appearance, we are in need of some pre-cut mat board frames, and I am asking for funding to purchase them. Student works are generally done in sizes 9"x12", 12"x18", and 18"x24". We will need 50 frames, in both white and black, in each size. Some of our teachers have just completed training in selecting student work for display and setting up "mini installations." They are most anxious to get started, especially with our annual Arts Festival scheduled for June 8, 2005. It would be great if we could surprise our students with a wonderful persentation of their works when they arrive for school the day of the Festival. Parents and community residents attending the festival would also be thrilled as they see the work on display, and would understand our committment to the arts. Thank you.
