I want to share what I love most about my 8th-grade students. Every day, they impress me with their creativity, curiosity, and willingness to take risks when they’re given the chance to explore ideas in new ways. They have such vivid imaginations, and when they’re challenged to think outside the box, they rise to it with humor, energy, and originality.
Many of my 8th-grade students come from lower-income households.
While they bring incredible imagination and enthusiasm to their work, they often don’t have access to the art supplies needed to fully realize their ideas—making your support especially meaningful for this project.
Our project is one that previous students have enjoyed, and it's our unit on Fractured Fairy Tales.
In this project, students reimagine familiar stories, twisting them into something entirely new—sometimes funny, sometimes thought-provoking, always inventive. This work encourages them to think critically about characters, plot, and perspective, while also providing space for self-expression through writing and art, all within the context of collaborative small-group work.
