This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have an intervention math class in a Title One school. I work with many students in fourth through sixth grade. My students struggle from lack of experience, support at home, and the Covid years when they lost learning time. My students love hands-on learning where they can manipulate tools and resources while practicing difficult ideas.
These students struggle with abstract math concepts like fractions and place value.
These hands-on materials help them "see" the concept and practice it, so they can understand the concept abstractly.
The fraction tiles, place value charts, and algebra tiles will help me to facilitate the students as they progress from conceptual to abstract understanding.
