Fraction Fun!

Help me give my students fractions to manipulate in a kinesthetic and visual way in thier classes!

My Students

I work with students that are struggling in math, and my challenge is to keep students focused and actively participating in class and loving to learn math! I would like our students to be able to concretely handle manipulatives to see, understand, and make connections in their acquisition of math concepts.

Because our students face challenges daily, the students are eager to learn and appreciative.

Our school is constantly striving to provide concrete understanding for all of our current math TEKS.

Acquisition of these supplies would enable my students to use concrete objects to represent the concept that is being taught. Many of our students have gaps in their understanding of the math standards. The generosity of the donors will provide my class with a very stimulating environment in which math concepts can be clearly and easily demonstrated.

My Project

Conceptual fraction understanding is one of the main reasons students feel that math is hard and when they can master these concepts at the elementary level, they are often successful in the older grades and have more of a chance to graduate! I used to teach high school and went back to elementary to work with teachers and students on many math concepts, but one of the leading condepts is fractions! I am trying to get manipulatives and games for our teachers to use in 3 - 5 grade here at Centennial Elementary!
