My Students

My classroom contains a diverse group of learners. Most of the students have tested into the Gifted and Academically Talented program, but I also have general education students as well.

Gifted students are amazing.

The way their minds work and their general enthusiasm for topics they are interested in leave me constantly in awe. They absorb and process information at astounding speeds, leaving our regular curricula in the dust. Hands-on experiences, individualized projects, and opportunity to include personal interests are what these students need.

Our classroom also has a unique blend of cultures. We have multiple ethnicities, languages, and countries represented in our small population. Including these unique backgrounds in our classroom is very important. We want to make sure each individual student is recognized and important while simultaneously cultivating a safe, respectful environment.

My Project

Starting in January 2019, my 4th graders will be learning about fractions and decimals. In order to help them learn through the use of hands-on models, I would like to provide them with fraction tiles.

These manipulatives will provide visual and tactile methods for learning different fractions and how they relate to each other.

The various colors help students visualize the relationships between a whole number and it's parts.

Learning fractions is a foundational skill that will be built upon in following grades. Ensuring my students understand what fractions are and how they work is essential for success not only in 4th grade, but in following grades as well.
