My Project

My 5th graders are an amazing group of mathematicians! We have just started our math unit on fractions. In 5th grade we learn to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions with like and unlike denominators. Fractions can be a tricky concept for students to grasp.

Hands on math manipulatives for fractions would help to create concrete meaning for my students.

Having the manipulative to help create an understanding of what exactly a fraction is sets a solid foundation for student learning. These manipulatives would give each student their own set of benchmark fraction bars to use in class.
